Functional Safety case study
Background
We were tasked with helping our client achieve their revised commitment to functional safety and cybersecurity. The project aimed to educate senior management, align processes with ISO standards, and develop robust safety concepts.
Objectives
Our client recognised the critical importance of functional safety and cybersecurity in the automotive landscape. Their goal was not just compliance but a comprehensive understanding of ISO 26262, ISO 21434, and ISO 21448 to shape business operations and product development.
Our Approach
We took a holistic approach, focusing not only on compliance but on empowering senior management and executives with in-depth knowledge. We aimed to weave functional safety and cybersecurity seamlessly into the values of our client’s operations.
The Solution
Our team initiated a Functional Safety & Cybersecurity Business Coaching program, equipping senior management with the expertise needed to navigate the impact of ISO 26262, ISO 21434, and ISO 21448 on both business operations and product development. We worked closely with their teams to develop company safety processes and procedures aligned with these international standards, and empower their teams with both the tools and knowledge not only to apply but also to fully embrace the additional values inherent in these methodologies and the accompanying processes.
Implementation
The journey continued with the creation of an Electrical/Electronic (EE) Architecture Safety Concept, item definition, and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA). The pre-development safety concept and Architecture Safety Assessment ensured that safety considerations were embedded in every phase of product development.
Results
The outcomes were transformative. Our client not only achieved compliance with international safety standards but also witnessed a cultural shift towards a proactive safety mindset. The education provided to senior management empowered them to make informed decisions, and the safety processes implemented became an integral part of the company’s DNA.
